Sweeney and Gillibrand fight over who’s a bigger whore

The Times Union’s Capitol Confidential blog has a great post about 20th district insider candidates Sweeney and Gillibrand fighting over who has raised more money from outside the district. The answer is that they’re both whores for special interests.

Next they’re going to argue about who started it.

  • la la la I can't hear you

As someone in the district, I supported Gillibrand’s campaign because I know that she can’t win if she doesn’t have the funds to get her message to the voters. The incumbent has access to the media for any occassion.

The challenger must often pay for ads and events to get their name out there. I’m proud of Kirsten for kicking Sweeney’s butt in fund raising. Most of her donations are from individual donors. Whereas almost half of Sweeney’s funds are from PACs.

The Sweeney campaign is trying to claim that Gillibrand has no support in this district, when in fact she raised more money from individual voters here like me than Sweeney did. So by his logic, it seems she has more support in the district than he does!

Are you campaigning against Gillibrand or Sweeney? If you want support from Gillibrand’s grassroots supporters it seems that you might remind yourself to spend more time attacking your opponent and less time on the 20th race.

First of all, thank you for commenting. Nice to know someone’s reading this blog. :-)

I’m not campaigning against anyone. I’m campaigning for a theme (see the title of this blog). But while I’m at it, and while the 20th CD race is sucking up all the media attention, I will feel free to comment on the race.

If I’m campaigning against anything, it’s political insiders, which describes Sweeney, Gillibrand, and McNulty. In my mind they’re all the same. You’ve bought into the fiction that there’s a difference between Dems and Repubs in Washington. The real difference is between political insiders and the rest of us.

  • Warren,

It’s interesting to note that Eric Sundwall has put forward more of his own resources then either Sweeney or Gillibrand combined.

how much money is moveon.org spending on gillibrand? by the way, the times union has a mcnulty from green island (any relation to you know who) doing a blog on their website. i did a search of your name (wredlich) on their site and got two results , your letter and rex smirky smiths reply. no other articles, is that possible?

  • Responding to Anonymous, I believe MoveOn is spending a lot on Gillibrand, probably in the hundreds of thousands. I did not know about Casey McNulty’s blog on the Times Union site. Someone named McNulty from Green Island is pretty likely related to my opponent. I checked his profile and none of his kids are named Casey (though Casey could be a nickname). He has at least one brother so Casey could be a niece.

I think the Times Union has mentioned my name more than twice, but not much more. Rex Smith’s editorial offers an explanation for why. I don’t like it, but I don’t own the paper.

Warren who????? The only reason that I am on your site is that it is an assignment for my class and I wanted to do a poster on MIKE MCNULTY who YOU WILL NOT WIN AGAINST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and by the way, you must be a stuck-up city slicker and snob form Altamont because you went to Guilderland High!!!!!!!! You are not in the HILLTOWNS. The Helderberg Mountains are the back drop for your “Historic Town.” BERNE, KNOX AND WESTERLO are in the HILLTOWNS!!!!!!!!!! BKW is SOOOOOO much better Guilderland!!!!! We might not be millionaires but at least you we have some common sense while YOU DO NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Responding to our Anonymous high school student, I thought about rejecting the comment but I figured I should be more open.

I am not from Altamont, and I don’t consider them to be city slickers. I grew up in Presidential Estates, near Farnsworth Middle School.

Berne, Knox and Westerlo are indeed wonderful places. They share much in common with Schoharie County and Fulton County, with their low population density and the way in which governments in Albany and Washington ignore them.

As for the millionaire comment, I don’t think I’m there quite yet.

Thanks for not rejecting my commet. That would not have won you my vote… but wait, you will never get my vote because Mike McNulty is way better than you!!!!!!!!!!! It does not matter anyway. I am not old enough to vote for another 6 months 26 days and 9 hours so ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Casey McNulty’s blog is the dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life. Come on, we all know how she got the thing. Out of all of the college kids from and in Albany, someone from Green Island with the last name Mc Nulty gets a blog. Its such garbage, I read it to realize how stupid kids from privledged backgrounds are. Her whol blog is essentially her talking about how great she is and how she lives in Boston and then NYC. I am from NYC, lived and Boston and to be honest I think she is a fool. Why did the TU give this girl a blog. I want to read news, not some insecure politicians reletive talking about themselves.

This message is for Warren and anyone else watching. I am NOT a career politician. I have a way different stepping stone health care solution and would be happy to come out there to talk to anyone about it. I also need donations to get the word out, from plain jane ordinary New Yorkers. Email me through the website.
